Snowboarding in the Swiss Alps

The Swiss Alps offer everything from gentle cruisers for first-timers to some of the best Freeride terrain and snow parks for the more advanced rider.

Why Switzerland?

  • Reliable Snow: With many resorts over 2,000 meters, you’re almost guaranteed powder from December through April.

  • Stunning Scenery: Nothing beats carving beneath the Matterhorn or dipping into a glacial valley. The dramatic peaks and crystal-clear alpine lakes are constant companions.

  • World-Class Infrastructure: Efficient lifts, groomed runs, and well-marked off-piste zones mean more time riding and less time queuing.

Top Swiss Snowboarding Destinations

Verbier

Part of the 4 Vallées, Verbier boasts over 400 km of pistes and epic off-piste terrain. Its challenging couloirs and lively après-ski scene make it a magnet for advanced riders

Zermatt

Home to the iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt offers year-round snowboarding on the glacier. The long runs and high-altitude parks draw park rats and powder hounds alike.

Laax

Known as Switzerland’s freestyle capital, Laax features four snowparks (including Europe’s largest halfpipe) and playground-style runs perfect for trick progression.

Engelberg–Titlis

A favorite for freeriders, Engelberg’s steep north faces deliver deep, untouched powder. The Titlis glacier lift even runs in summer for off-season shred.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Riding time in Switzerland

  • Book Early: Switzerland can fill up fast—reserve your lift passes and accommodations by early autumn for the best rates.

  • Layer Up: Alpine weather changes quickly. A waterproof shell, breathable mid-layers, and good gloves will keep you comfortable all day.

  • Local Guides: Consider hiring a local guide if you’re venturing off-piste—they know the safest, most rewarding lines.

  • Respect the Mountain: Always check avalanche forecasts and stay within marked boundaries. Unless you are with a mountain professional.

Après

After a day on the board, unwind with a fondue dinner in a mountain hut or soak in an outdoor hot tub overlooking the peaks. Our home resort of Verbier has a great number of Apres spots to unwind after a day on the hill. The Mont fort pub does a great happy hour from 4pm - 5pm.The Farinet Apres ski bar with a live band will fire up around 6pm. La rouge is another good venue for a more DJ orientated experience.
