Intermediate snowboard lessons

November 2nd, 2023

Intermediate snowboard lessons are super important to inject new life into your existing skill set. Traditionally there has always been a slight hesitation to take a lesson after a rider has mastered the basics.

However an intermediate lesson will have you riding quicker, more challenging terrain with style and finesse a lot faster than being self taught.

Like in any sport the idea is to make the actions look effortless and easy. The riding wants to flow down the mountain not scratch and scrap, looking like you’re fighting against it.

You can choose the area of riding you want to perfect. Always a good starting block for all high end snowboarding is the ability to be able to carve and grip with both the toe and heel edge. This is where the tail of the board takes the same line as the nose. It's the concept of tilting the board edge, gripping and implementing a carve turn rather than a skidded turn. You are wanting to leave that fine pencil thin line in the snow rather than fat skidded line. This would be practise and mastered on groomed slopes. Carving is the foundation for all higher end snowboarding.

Also Look to take your growing skill set and confidence off-piste. Depending on conditions this could be riding anything from chopped up tracked powder to untouched fresh snow. A lot of riding off-piste is being able to read the terrain and be able to adapt and adjust ones style of riding to be able to ride smoothly.

Another area of riding which is worth focusing on would be to add some basic freestyle skills into the repertoire. Riding switch is always a good place to start. Always important to keep practising riding switch so you are able to change things up. When learning the 180 there is the option to go into the trick switch and land regular or do the trick the other way round. Basic freestyle will also focus around learning the basic ollie and nollie trick as well as presses and butters.

The beauty about snowboarding is that there is always something to learn and master and the process is always super enjoyable.
