How to carve your snowboard
Once you are able to comfortably stand and steer the board it is now time to think about carving the board rather than skidding the board through the turn.
When wanting to progress your skill set as a rider. It is so important to be able to tip and grip rather than glide and skid through the turn.
The output will be a pencil thin line in the snow where the edge of the board is gripping through the arc on both the toe and heel edge. A combination of movements are required to complete this task. You will need to keep the weight centred and have a strong lateral movement across the board. Angulation with the ankles and the board and then inclination with the whole body. The body should stay within the curve of the arc of the turn. You should actively press against the edge when carving to enable the board to grip through the turn.
Carving is best practised on a mellow wide slope. Once the rider becomes more comfortable with the task the slope can become steeper and more challenging.
Being able to before carve turns is essential for all higher end rider. Whether this is riding at higher speeds down groomers, setting the platform or edge to spin off kickers in the snow park or riding in variable terrain where a mixture of turns will be made depending on the conditions.
